Outdoor Supervisor Position (P/T):

 

Job Purpose
MWA is seeking candidates for a position for the spring and summer of 2017. The outdoor supervisor will assist in caring for the native plantings at the River Resource Center (10 Maple Ave., Asbury, NJ) and nearby riparian sites.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate volunteers for outdoor work
  • Prepare plants and materials for MWA's Native Plant Sale
  • Weed and mulch in the native plant beds around the River Resource Center
  • Water newly planted shrubs, perennials and deck planters
  • Plant perennials, grasses, shrubs and tree seedlings on the property
  • Plant willow whips and stakes in riparian buffers
  • Prune and monitor plants for diseases
  • Beaver-proof young trees with wire and stakes
  • Repair plant labels and mark plants in the beds
  • Clean and fill bird feeders
  • Monitor nestboxes
  • Supervise mowing of paths around and through the meadow at the River Resource Center
  • Assist with maintenance on the River Resource Center Trail
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have had experience with native plants or will be working toward a degree in biology, botany, ecology, environmental policy or a related field. Applicants must be comfortable working outdoors and be physically able to do all gardening tasks, including some lifting and carrying.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise volunteers as needed.

Special Requirements
Weekend and/or evening work required several times a year.

May require use of personal vehicle.

Job Classification
Hours: 15 hours per week (flexible)
Dates: March-September (flexible)
