Ray Merrell

Ray is returning to the Musconetcong since first conducting water quality monitoring in 1977 as a student.  Samuel Faust, PhD, was a gentleman farmer along the river in Changewater and Ray’s advisor at Cook College.  Dr. Faust secured funding to start an aquatic testing lab in the Lebanon Township building.  Ray was one of two students who started and staffed the lab, traveling throughout Lebanon Township conducting water quality testing of resident’s private drinking water wells and water quality monitoring stations along the Musky.  Ray is a Cook College Aggie, earning a BS and MBA from Rutgers and MS from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Ray’s passion for the outdoors started as a Boy Scout.  He was an avid backpacker during summers and school breaks in high school and college, completing two-thirds of the Appalachian Trail and the entire Long Trail through Vermont to Canada.  Ray is an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Professional, providing EHS leadership, remediation and restoration services to manufacturing sites in 35 states and 15 countries.  Ray and his wife MaryAnn, both from Flemington, raised two daughters for 35 years in West Caldwell, NJ before moving to Hackettstown in 2018.
