Saturday April 5th, 2008 9:30a.m. - 12:00 noon Come
out and hike the beautiful Musconetcong Gorge. This preserve,
part of the Hunterdon County Park System encompasses 425 acres
and has trails that are sometimes steep and rocky with views of
a scenic waterfall. The trails that we will use range from moderate
to slightly difficult, they take advantage of the smoothest grounds
but are steep in some areas. A highlight of this hike will be
viewing the 36-foot high Warren Glen dam, the biggest dam on the
Musconetcong River, which was once used to power the mill. Members
are free, non-members $2, $5 maximum per family. Call (908) 537-7060

Spring Clean Up This is a great day
to pitch in and join MWA members, residents, Trout Unlimited volunteers
and watershed residents at the 16th
Annual Spring Clean Up. Afterwards participants gather at
the MWA’s River Resource Center in Asbury for hot dogs and sodas.Call

Meeting Join us for this
year's MWA Annual Meeting to be held at Hawk Pointe Golf Club.
New Jersey Audubon Society board member John A DeMarrais will
lead us on a bird walk that will begin at 5:00 p.m. sharp. After
returning from the bird walk, sandwiches and soft drinks will
be served. Following the meeting . guest speaker
Mike Cronomiz, a LEED certified architect will discuss the “green”

Sunday May 4th, 2008 7th Annual MWA
Run/Walk for the River
Join us to either
walk or run in this 4.0 mile event. Click on the "Run for
the River" link at left for lots of information or to print
a registration form. Runners will pass streams, pastures, historic
buildings, and of course the beautiful Musconetcong River on this
mostly flat, fast course. Race applications can be obtained by
calling (908) 537-7060 or printed from the website.

12:00 noon Annual Hike at Point Mountain
Each year MWA members and others set aside the Saturday after
Thanksgiving to burn off those extra calories by hiking the trail
at the Point Mountain Reserve. This year, for the first time,
we will be accompanied by a Hunterdon County Park Ranger. We look
forward to having an expert along to speak to us about the special
features of the 700-acre Point Mountain Reservation. Members are
free, non-members $2, $5 maximum per family. All are welcome,

feet wet! We'd like to introduce you to the Musconetcong River.
This program will allow children to come down to the river's edge
and splash around in the water. We'll turn over some rocks and
maybe we'll be lucky enough to catch a frog! You'll need to wear
water shoes, old sneakers or sandals with a strap on back. No
bare feet and no flip flops please! Parents must be present but
do not need to get their feet wet - there will be plenty of volunteers
on hand. We will not be swimming, just getting our feet wet. Call

members free. Non-members will be charged a $2 donation per child
($5 limit per family.)

in Asbury. Join us for an excellent selection of domestic and
imported wines provided by Perryville Wine and Spirits, live music
by Jambone, delicious finger foods prepared by Milford Market,
and enjoy the fall foliage at the river's edge. Tickets are $25.00

Members Meeting Join us for this year's MWA Annual Meeting

Wildlife Trail Project Associate with the New Jersey Audubon Society,
will lead us on a bird walk that will begin at 5:30 sharp. After

bluebird house to take home. A discussion of wildlife habitat
in the Musconetcong Watershed led by MacKenzie Hall Natural Resource
Conservation Services Private Lands Biologist will begin at 7:00

April 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come out and visit the Musconetcong
Watershed Associaiton's booth at the PEQUEST OPEN HOUSE and FISHING
FLEA MARKET - - Celebrate the arrival of spring and approach of
trout season at this annual celebration. In addition to seeing
where and how 600,000 trout are raised each year, the Open House
hosts a giant mobile aquarium with lunker fish, wildlife artists
and taxidermists, the Fishing Flea Market, fish cleaning and cooking
demonstrations, kids' crafts and hands-on activities. There will
be fishing for kids under 16 (register at event) and a Living
History Encampment along with displays from N.J. conservation
groups and much more. More!

Paddling Trip I have been contacted by Rich Pace of the Appalachian
Mountain Club (Delaware Valley Chapter) regarding a Saturday November
11, 2006 paddling trip on the Musky. MWA Members are invited to
attend this trip which will leave from Penwell and end in Asbury.
Meet at the River Resource Center at the corner of Old Main Street
and Maple Avenue in Asbury. Check out the Appalachian

Come
visit the Musconetcong Watershed Association booth at the 5th
Annual Wildlife Heritage Festival Sunday, September
24 from 10:00 - 4:00 at the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural
Resource Education Center. There will be guides and outfitters
set up displaying their services. Conservation groups' representatives
will be here to talk with visitors and several reenactors will
be encamped at the hatchery to demonstrate primitive living skills
from a bygone era. There will be kids' activities for children
of all ages, so bring your whole family! The Pequest Trout Hatchery
is located on Route 46 nine miles west of Hackettstown in scenic
Warren County. Come spend the day at the Wildlife
Heritage Festival . There will be food available for purchase
on the day of the Festival.

Watershed Cycling Tour Saturday June
17, 2006 10:00 Postponed, please check back for the new date.
Join us for our first-ever tour of the watershed, led by Peter
Banta, an MWA Trustee and experienced cyclist. We will be limiting
the tour to 15 participants. The group will leave from the River
Resource Center on Main Street in Asbury and head north on Maple
Avenue. We will then cross the Shurts Road bridge, go through
Hampton to light on Route 31 and continue on New Lebanon Road
,we will cross the river from the Hunterdon to the Warren County
side in Changewater (or maybe farther north). The group will then
turn south on Asbury-Anderson road, cross Route 31, and continue
on until the third right hand turn. We will turn onto Mountain
View Road and pass the Blue Army Shrine, continue south on Mountain
View enjoying views into Musconetcong valley. We turn left onto
Butler Road, and then go left to Bloomsbury Road. At this point
we will either return to Asbury on the Bloomsbury Road or go across
the River on Wolverton Road to West Portal road, and then return
to Asbury. This is the likely route but it may change depending
on the desires and abilities of the group. Please register or

Musconetcong Watershed
Association’s Annual Meeting Friday June 2, 7:30 p.m. Please
join us at Hawk Pointe Golf Club for our Annual Meeting. A short
business meeting will begin with reports from the Executive Director
and President, followed by the Nominating Committee report and
election of Trustees and Officers. Following this presentation
there will be a social hour including a cash bar and complimentary

10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Point Mountain Hike Join
us at the Point Mountain Reserve in Lebanon Township, Hunterdon
County, NJ Free to the public, rain or shine. Experience
the natural beauty of this 700+ acre wooded nature preserve and
the breathtaking view of the Musconetcong Watershed from Point
Mountain, the fifth highest peak in the county. The park’s prime
forest, fields, streams, and geological features provide valuable
and varied animal habitat and important recreation for area residents.
This moderately steep hike is co-sponsored by Heritage Conservancy
and the Musconetcong Watershed Association.
Sunday, May
14th 2006 Water based cleanup The
participants in this "floating clean up" will put in
at Penwell and clean from Penwell to Hampton Park, about 7 miles.
A few canoes are available for use in the clean up. Participants
need to be able to negotiate that section of the river which has
some class II at Point Mountain, broken dam immediately prior
to Hampton take-out, etc. Folks have to be able to control potentially
garbage laden boats through these areas. This event is sponsored
by Mohawk Canoe Club and they will be handling all questions and

Bethlehem Township Environmental Commission will be planting a
tree buffer along the Musconetcong River at Heritage Park Route
173 If interested in digging the plantings in Bethlehem Township.

22, 2006 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Come clean at the 13th
Annual MWA Spring Clean Up. Each year MWA members, community volunteers
and Trout Unlimited representatives remove tons of trash from
the Musconetcong River and adjacent parks, roadsides, neighborhoods
and river accesses. MWA supplies trash bags, gloves, snacks, and
T-shirts. Volunteers meet and clean at various locations in the
watershed. Afterwards participants gather at noon at the MWA's
River Resource Center (give full address here) in Asbury for hot
