About the event
Join the Musconetcong Watershed Association for a flatwater paddling trip on Saxton Lake in Allamuchy Township on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
Saxton Lake is one of many human-made lakes in the Musconetcong River Watershed, as part of the historic Morris Canal. It also happens to be nestled among largely forested river banks amidst the scenic New Jersey Highlands. This flatwater paddling trip will allow for conversations about local wildlife, the history of the area, as well as the chance to learn about the current state of the Musconetcong River. For example, what is its level of protection? How is the water quality in the river, and which factors could lead to its decline or improvement?
If you're looking for a paddling outing more subdued than the swift waters of the undammed sections of the Musconetcong, this approximately two-hour trip would fulfill that and help connect you more deeply to this wonderful treasure.
As a safety precaution, life vests are required to participate in this paddling trip. We have a limited number of kayaks and life vests available for use on a first-come, first-served basis, so beginners are welcome as long as you are able to swim.  If you require a kayak and life vest to participate, please register as soon as you know you want to come and email Linda Cerceau at linda@musconetcong.org to request what you need.
We will meet for the trip at 9:00 am at the kayak launch near the old Morris Canal lock tender's house on Waterloo Rd. While there's no dedicated street address for this location, you can find a Google Maps link for that parking area here: https://goo.gl/maps/hksY9GKPCWuUnkhv8.
There is a suggested donation of $10 to participate in this event. You may bring donations with you, or you can also donate online here.
Space is limited and registration is required. When filling out the form, please only register one person at a time. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Cerceau at linda@musconetcong.org.  Learn more about the Great Waters NJ initiative: www.greatwatersnj.org
