About the event
Come and join the Water Quality team and their River Watchers as well as our friends at the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, June 24th from 1-3pm for the third installment of their salt snapshots, this time in the Upper Musconetcong region. This region is centered around both of the Musconetcong River's headwater lakes, Lake Hopatcong and Lake Musconetcong, with our central meeting location at LHF's headquarters at 125 Landing Rd. Landing, NJ 07850. Volunteers will meet at the central location for a debrief, supply hand off and then sent out to sites in the area to grab samples and then return back to the central location for testing.
The purpose of this salt snapshot series is to identify sources of salt intrusion into groundwater throughout the watershed. This is done during a baseflow event, for two purposes; the first is to determine aquatic life's salt exposure for the majority of their time in stream and second, is to identify areas which may be contributing or preventing salt contamination. By doing this, we can better understand the impact road salt usage has on our ecosystems.
If this sounds like something you would be interested participating in the sign-up link is here. We are also asking volunteers to bring a tap water sample with them to test for conductivity and chloride of your drinking water!
