About the event
Volunteers are needed to assist the Musconetcong Watershed Association in planting native trees and shrubs to complete the floodplain restoration at the Beatty’s Mill Dam Removal Site in Hackettstown, NJ. The breached dam was removed in the fall of 2023 in an effort to restore the free flowing condition of the Musconetcong River. This is the 6th dam to be removed along the Musconetcong by the MWA and its partners. Native plants along the bank will provide shade and habitat to the river, and support a high quality trout fishery in the Musconetcong.
The volunteer planting event will be on Sunday May, 19th beginning at 11 am near Union Cemetery in Hackettstown, NJ. Participants are encouraged to sign up at www.musconetcong.org/planting to receive notices on event details such as site parking and weather related cancelations. Additionally volunteers are encouraged to bring a shovel and garden gloves as well as a reusable water bottle, however extra tools and supplies will be available as well. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Please contact Linda Cerceau via email at linda@musconetcong.org with any questions.
