Join the MWA for a virtual River Talk, which will take place on Tuesday, March 21st, 7:00 - 8:30p.m.
In this virtual River Talk, learn from farmer-scientist Christian Bench as he speaks on the significance, value, and attributes of farming and stewarding land in the Musconetcong River Valley. Â Learn about agriculture trends in the valley and farm diversification as well as weather, economic, and social stressors that farmers face. Â Benefits to farming in NJ will be highlighted and discussion will include unique market opportunities for farmers, favorable demographics, and other important strengths that contribute to the relentless viability and conservation of lands in the Musconetcong River Valley.
Christian Bench is a Senior Agricultural Specialist with North Jersey Resource Conservation & Development and a partner employee with the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Â His specialty is production agriculture, protecting natural resources, and promoting the soil health initiative. Prior to working for North Jersey RC&D, he was employed with the USDA Farm Service Agency for 2 years and the USDA-NRCS for 8 years. Christian has a B.S in Agricultural Science with a focus on crop science from Oregon State University. He and his wife operate a diverse farm in Stockton, NJ where they raise beef cattle, hay, and lambs.
North Jersey RC&D is a local agricultural nonprofit, working to assist farmers and sustainable agriculture through partnerships, innovation, and education.
